MARSHALL ISLANDS

                                    MARSHALL ISLANDS

The Marshall Islands is officially the Republic of the Marshall Islands. It is an island country consisting of a group of islands sharing maritime boundaries with Wake Island to the north,  Kiribati to the southeast, Nauru to the south and Federated States of Micronesia to the west. The largest city is Majuro.

The islands derive their name from John Marshall who visited in 1788. 1788 he captained the ship Scarborough taking convicts from England . The islands which he had originally called "Lord Mulgrove's Range" were later named by Thomas Gilbert as  the Marshall Islands.

My good friend Arnold sent me this card on 1 November 2019 postmarked at Majuro. Lovely card inspired me to learn about the isles. The islands saw a lot of action between the two World Wars. Bikini Atoll was witness to a sea graveyard.
This card is of FW series of postcardsmarket.com
